With two wins, Avon boys move into semifinals

AVON, Nov. 16 –Drew Montano drilled a penalty kick into the net with 16:58 remaining in the second half to lift the Avon High boys soccer team (14-3-1) with a 1-0 victory over RHAM in the Class L quarterfinals on Wednesday. The No. 7 Falcons (14-3-1) advance to face Branford in the semifinals on Saturday in Waterbury.

AVON, Nov. 14 – Goalie Alex Andrews made two saves in the penalty kick shootout as Avon prevailed in a shootout, 3-0.

The visiting Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a penalty kick. But the Falcons tied the game when Drew Montano scored midway through the second half. Avon outshot E.O. Smith, 12-1 in the second half but goalie Xavier Fegan was up to the task with 16 saves. In the penalty kick shootout, Conor Lanahan, Max Leopold and Tyler Bonini scored for the Falcons.
