Defending champions prevail in Avon

AVON, May 20 – Avon’s Bill Thramann won the Avon Pine Grove School 5K road race Sunday morning for the second straight year with a 12-second win over Avon’s Jeff McDermott.

With a time of 18:04.88, Thramann was the top runner in the field of 271 – the third largest race in the event’s seven-year history. Thramann, 51, has finished in the top four in each of the last five years.

On the woman’s side, Burlington’s Mary Lynn Currier won the race for the fifth time in 18:51.60, beating her nearest competitor by over a minute. She was just three seconds off the race record she set in 2009 of 18:48. Proceeds from the race benefit the Pine Grove PTO. Find all of the results at Last Mile Racing.com
