Canton, Avon to host annual night games for fall sports teams

Canton High and Avon High will be hosting their annual night games for their respective fall athletic teams.

Canton High will hold its annual night soccer games on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Bowdoin Field as part of the alumni weekend events. The Canton boys will host Coventry at 6 p.m. and the Canton girls will host the Coventry girls at 8 p.m.

Avon High will host its annual Spirit Week the week of Oct. 22 for its fall athletic teams that includes night games for most of the teams.


Canton Youth Soccer and the Canton High Athletic Booster Club are sponsoring Canton High’s annual soccer doubleheader. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students. Children under the age of 4 are admitted free.

It’s the 14th year that the doubleheader showcase has been held at Bowdoin Field. The boys are 4-6-3 and the girls team is 6-6-1. It’s the first time that Canton is hosting Coventry for this doubleheader.

Spirit Week in Avon
Avon High will host its annual Spirit Week the week of Oct. 22 for its fall athletic teams that includes night games for most of the teams. The girls volleyball team will host Bolton on Monday, Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the main gym.

The schedule of night games at Avon High on the football field under portable lights is:
Boys soccer: vs. Suffield, 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23
Girls soccer : vs. Suffield, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23
Field hockey: vs. Stafford, 5:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25
Football: vs. Housatonic/Wamogo, 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27
