SUFFIELD, April 29 – On a cold, windy day, the Avon High girls track team won seven individual events and two relays to beat Suffield, 82-68 in a battle of unbeaten teams Tuesday afternoon. It was the closest meet of the year for the Falcons (8-0, 8-0 NCCC), who captured their 26th consecutive dual meet since the 2010 campaign.

Maddi McHugh swept the 400 and 800 meters and ran on the winning 4×400 relay team. Molly Hamel grabbed the 1,600 and 3,200 meters while Carly Regalado (300 hurdles), Caroline Rendeiro (high jump) and Kaely Quijano (pole vault) also won individual events.

Regalado, Maeve Reiss, Tara Shayler and McHugh ran on the winning 4×400 relay team while Sara Stokesbury, Ryley Higgins, Sara Kate Mascoli and Resa Lewis were on the winning 4×800 relay.

Kaleigh Sherman finished second in three events (javelin, long jump, high jump) while Maeve Reiss finished second in the long jump and high jump. Suffield slips to 7-1 on the season.

In the boys competition, Suffield (7-1) outlasted Avon, 77-73 and easily beat Stafford, 124-25. Avon (5-3) also beat Stafford handily, 103-36.

The host Wildcats won all three relay races and six individual results. Jordan McCray swept the hurdle events while teammates Jarvis Miller and Taylor Stephen each won an event and finished second in another event.

For Avon, Jake Sartain swept the high jump and triple jump while finishing second in the long jump. Jeff Kirk won the shot put and discus while taking third in the javelin. Justin Reichler won the long jump while taking a pair of second place finishes in the shot and triple jump.
