REDDING – Well, this wasn’t in the script for Saturday’s CIAC Class M quarterfinal contest against host Joel Barlow. The No. 18 Avon boys lacrosse team was on a roll coming into the contest. The Falcons had won two straight games including a 7-5 win over No. 2 East Lyme earlier in the week.
Avon scored the first goal of the game on a shot from Alex Casner. Little went right after that. Barlow scored 19 consecutive goals to eliminate the Falcons, 19-2.
No. 12 Barlow had a lopsided 51-6 advantage in shots on goal and forced 32 Avon turnovers. Andrew St. Jean scored the second goal for Avon. Falcon goalie Sean Glover made 17 stops in net.
Barlow (12-7) is hoping to earn a spot in a CIAC championship game for the fourth consecutive season but they will have to get past New Canaan. Barlow fell to Wilton in the Class M title a game a year ago. In 2012, Barlow beat Somers in the Class S final and in 2011, they lost to St. Joseph in the Class S final by one goal.
