AVON, July 12 – There is a new champion of the Rolling Hills 5K road race. Avon’s Jeff Molson beat two-time defending champion Tim Jarka of Canton Saturday to win the third annual Rolling Hills 5K at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Avon.

Molson beat Jarka by 44 seconds to win the 3.1 mile road race with a course record time of 21:23. By one second, Molson snapped the record set by Jarka a year ago (21:24).

Molson’s daughter, Tara, 19, won the women’s division for the second straight year with a winning time of 23:58. Tara Molson beat Canton’s Emily Jarka, 17, by 30 seconds to win the championship.

The race attracted a record crowd of 150 runners. It included a division where runners could compete with their dogs. Avon’s John Evans and his dog, Lyla, were the first duo across the finish line in 27:10, good enough for 20th overall in the race. There were 25 runners who ran the race with their dogs.

Proceed from the race support the continuing mission trips of St. Matthew’s high school-aged youth group.
