Canton’s Spirit Week includes Wall of Fame induction and night football, field hockey and soccer games

Canton hosted its first-ever night football game at the high school Friday night against Lewis Mills.

Last November, the Canton High football team hosted Lewis Mills on the new turf field. This year, the boys and girls soccer teams, field hockey team and football team will have games on the turf under the lights.

CANTON – Spirit Week at Canton will include the annual night soccer games, sponsored by the Canton Youth Soccer Association. But this year, there will be night games for the field hockey and football teams thanks to fundraising efforts from the Canton Athletic Booster Club.

And the Canton Wall of Fame will induct their latest class on Friday, Oct. 24 to cap off a week of highlighting athletic and community service excellence.

Six Canton High graduates will be recognized at the 12th annual Wall of Fame induction ceremony for their outstanding contributions in their field of work and/or the community. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Richard Barlow, the current First Selectman in town and a member of the Class of 1963, will be recognized along with Emily Norland (1991), Robert Degenhart (1956), Harold Freytag, Jr., (1958) and Thomas Perry (1960), who was serving our country in Vietnam in 1968 and is missing in action.

Friends and graduates interested in attending should contact Lisa Davidson at the high school at 860-693-7707, Ext. 7003 or Dr. Jordan Grossman, assistant superintendent, at 860-693-7704 by Friday to get tickets. The tickets are $15 each.
