Canton basketball team wins at Nutmeg State Games Holiday Festival

A seventh grade boys basketball team from Canton won the 13 and under division at the Nutmeg State Games Holiday Classic earlier this week.

A seventh grade boys basketball team from Canton won the 13-and-under division at the Nutmeg State Games Holiday Classic earlier this week.

A youth basketball team from Canton won the seventh grade boys division at the second annual Nutmeg State Games Holiday Festival earlier this week at Wesleyan University in Middletown.

It was a three-day tournament for boys and girls teams in sixth, seventh and eighth grade. Canton went 5-0 in the tournament and defeated Agawam, Mass., 54-36, in the finals of the seventh grade boys division to win the championship. 

Other teams competing against Canton in the seventh grade boys tournament (age 13 and under) were from West Hartford, Berlin, Deep River, Capital Prep, Ridgefield, Fairfield and Glastonbury. Each team played a minimum of three games. In the pool portion of the tournament, Canton beat Capital Prep, 44-37, Deep River, 55-42, Glastonbury, 56-42 and West Hartford, 40-35. 

The Canton team included Thomas Amrose, Collin Anderson, Ta’ki Blizzard, Daniel Clark, Ferrone Drew, Kyle Maher, Logan Mansur, Jack Rose, Matthew Rose and Chris Tenczar. The team was coached by Paul Amrose.
