CANTON – Canton High junior Maggie Treacy is the sixth girl in school history to earn All-State honors in girls basketball. Treacy was recently named to the Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA) All-State team.

Treacy averaged a team-high 16.5 points as she helped Canton (22-5, 16-2 NCCC) win a share of its first NCCC championship since 1999 and earn a spot in the Class S championship game for just the third time in program history. Canton fell to Thomaston in the title game, 52-50.

“I’m just so happy for Maggie,” Canton coach Brian Medeiros said. “She continues to work hard on her game this honor shows the results of her dedication, determination and enjoyment towards her craft She truly is a joy to coach. Her personality on and off the court is what makes her loved by all of teammates.”

Treacy also led the squad with 38 three-point field goals. She had a career-high 31 points in January against Hartford Classical. In the post-season, Treacy got even better, averaging 17.1 points in seven games in the NCCC and Class S tournament.

“I feel this award will not only inspire Maggie next season, but will light the fire for the Canton Warriors in their quest back to the Sun,” Medeiros said. Canton will graduate two starters from this year’s team but will return their top two scorers – Treacy and sophomore Emily Briggs.

The last Canton player to earn All-State honors was Sarah Benedetti in 2011, who earned All-State honors in three consecutive seasons. Also earning first team All-State honors was Ashley McFetridge (2004, 2005), Laura Mack (2000), Natasha Pronga (1997, 1998, 1999) and Patty Sarmuk (1991).
