Black Sox handcuff Crushers in 2-1 victory

Baseball ImagePLYMOUTH, June 4 – Pitcher Ken Kerski went the distance, struck out 12 and allowed just three hits as the Terryville Black Sox beat the Canton Crushers, 2-1 in Tri-State League action Thursday night. 

Canton pitcher Jim Spirito (0-3) also went the distance on the mount for the Crushers, scattered three hits, walking one and striking out two. 

In its first road game of the season, Canton (0-3) took an early lead when Andre Eason singled and moved to second when Gerard Taylor reached on an error. Easton stole third base and scored on a RBI groundout by Spirito. 

Terryville (4-0) responded immediately in the bottom of the first inning. Pena walked and moved to second on a single from Jake Tehan. Pena scored from third base on a ground ball out from Zack Dandrea. 

The Black Sox extended its lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning. Dandrea led off the inning with a single and moved to second on an error. Dandrea scored on a RBI double from Norton. 

In the seventh inning, Taylor singled but was stranded there when Kerski got the final two Canton batters to ground out and end the game. Eason finished the game with two singles and a stolen base for the Crushers. 

It will be a busy weekend of baseball for Canton. The Crushers host expansion team East Mountain (0-1) of Waterbury on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Bowdoin Field. On Sunday morning, Canton will travel to Winsted (2-2) to face the Whalers at Walker Field beginning at 9 a.m.
