CLINTON, Oct. 10 – Undermanned Canton was no match for a hungry Morgan High football team on Saturday. The undefeated Huskies (5-0) scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and had a 34-point lead at halftime of a 48-14 Pequot Conference victory.

Gabe Eriksen scored three touchdowns and ran for 79 yards on just five carries. Quarterback Chuck Kostek completed 4-of-8 passes for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Huskies recovered three Canton fumbles.

“Our kids are hungry to play football. I hope I can teach kids in the future to play as hard as these guys do.” Coach Peter Nye told the New London Day “I’m impressed. When that ball goes down, they play as hard as they can from start to finish.”

Canton (0-5) was playing without starting quarterback Alex Higley and leading rusher Eddie Melton due to injuries. Matt Bangs led the Warriors by rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Jack Szczepanski scored his first varsity touchdown in the fourth quarter on an eight-year run.

Julian Adams led the Canton defense with four tackles, two assists, a tackle for a loss and a sack.
