CANTON, Dec. 30 – It was a special night in Canton Wednesday night as senior Maggie Treacy became just the fifth girl in school history to score more than 1,000 career points. Treacy had a team-high 24 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals in Canton’s 68-57 win over Hall-West Hartford in the championship game of the inaugural Simsbury Bank Holiday Classic.

It was also a special night for Treacy and her teammates. The Warriors captured the first tournament they’ve hosted in their history with solid performances from across the board. Emily Briggs scored 21 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and had seven steals. She also hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to end the first half to give Canton (5-1, 4-0 NCCC) a 16-point halftime lead, 36-20.

Carly Atkinson had a great first half, scoring eight of her 10 points and pulling down 7 rebounds.

“We played with high intensity,” Canton coach Brian Medeiros said. “It was most likely the best three quarters of basketball we have played this season on both ends of the court.” Canton led 50-31 after three quarters before Hall surged in the fourth quarter with Amber Raisner scoring 14 of her game-high and tournament-record 26 points to cut the lead.

Treacy needed just eight points to join the 1,000 point club. She hit two free throws in the first quarter to surpass 1,000 points in her career. “Maggie was unbelievable tonight,” Medeiros said. “She played the game with real poise, didn’t force anything and let the game come to her. She is a very selfless player and great teammate. I couldn’t be any happier or prouder of her.”

Treacy, who sank 14 of 18 foul shots, and Briggs were named to the All-Tournament and Treacy took home the tournament MVP award. Treacy had a game-high 23 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals in a 63-38 win over Granby in the tournament semifinals on Monday.

On Monday against Granby, Briggs had 18 points and seven steals for the Warriors while Atkinson and Belle Magna had seven points each. Emma Charron had two points along with six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Lauren Puglielli and Morgan Walzak scored their first varsity points.
