EAST WINDSOR, Feb. 3 – East Windsor picked up three key pins from Jack Pelly (113), Charlie Church (120) and Cote Boivin (145) that helped the Panthers outlast Canton, 42-39 in NCCC wrestling action Wednesday night.
Canton (5-7, 3-4 NCCC) won five matches and had four pins. But the Warriors forfeited four weight classes and that hurt their cause. The Panthers (9-7, 6-2 NCCC) had two forfeits so Canton lost 12 points but it was enough.
Canton cut the East Windsor lead to three, 30-27, when Hayden DiMaio beat East Windsor’s Colin Beahn, 3-0 at 138 pounds. But the Panthers extended its lead to nine, 36-27, and clinched the victory when Boivin pinned Aidan Pass (145) in 1:52.
Trey VandeBogart (152) had a pin to cut the East Windsor lead to three but the final two weight classes were forfeits with East Windsor picking up one and Canton picking up the other one.
Joe Bowman (182), Braydon Fluckiger (220), Donovan Mackin (106) and VandeBogart had pins for the Warriors.
Canton returns to action Saturday when they travel to Derby for a four-team meet. It’s the most wins for East Windsor in a single season since winning 10 matches in 2006 with a 10-12 record. East Windsor’s last winning season came in 2002 with a 14-8-1 mark.
