Masuk shuts down Avon and eliminates Falcons in Class M tournament, 12-3

Avon goalie David Tuggle made 15 saves in Masuk’s win in the first round of the Class M tournament Saturday.

MONROE, May 27 – Avon’s Chase Gordon scored a first period goal that cut the lead to one in Saturday’s Class M tournament game with No. 13 Masuk boys lacrosse team. But the host Panthers held the No. 20 Falcons scoreless for 36 minutes and scored nine unanswered goals to run away with a 12-3 decision.

The win enables Masuk (13-6) to get another opportunity to play No. 4 New Canaan in the second round. Mickey Zuk had five goals to lead Masuk while Seth Dyess, Michael Pieper and Ryan Shaw had two goals each.

Gordon, Alex Spivak and Jack Jones scored goals for Avon (8-10), which scored just four goals in post-season play. Will Avery had one goal in Avon’s 18-1 loss to Glastonbury in the CCC Central semifinals earlier this week. Goalie David Triggle made 15 saves in net for Avon.

Will Avery scored Avon’s lone goal in Tuesday’s loss to Glastonbury in the CCC Central semifinal.
