AVON, June 14 – The Avon High American Legion baseball team has managed just five hits in their last two games but Post 201 is still coming out on top. On Tuesday, Avon had just two hits in a 2-0 win over Terryville.

On Wednesday night, undefeated Avon had only three hits against visiting Winsted but still managed to earn another 2-0 Zone 1 victory at Buckingham Park.

Pitcher Justin Olson earned his first American Legion victory of the summer, going all seven innings, striking out seven, allowing just three hits and walked three. Olson outdueled Winsted hurler Ryan Sholtis, who was hurt by four walks and a hit batter.

Avon (6-0, 6-0 Zone 1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Will Thramann walked and Jeremy Zarwanski was hit by a pitch with one out. After both men stole bases, Sholtis walked Chris Jacobs to load the bases with two outs in the inning. Kyle Emery coaxed a walk to force in a run.

Post 201 added a second run in the sixth inning. Andrew LeDuc singled to left field and moved to second base on a successful sacrifice bunt by Jacobs. LeDuc scored on Sean Del Gallo’s RBI single to right field for a 2-0 lead.

Avon beat Winsted for the 14th straight time. Winsted last beat Post 201 in 2012. Avon is now 24-1 against Winsted since the Post 201 was reborn in 2009.

It was the third straight game that Avon has won by a 2-0 margin. Post 201 beat Southington in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday by a 2-0 score.

Avon returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Wolcott for a Zone 1 game at 5:45 p.m. Post 201 will host Wolcott for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. at Buckingham Park.
