Canton wins fourth straight game with 7-goal win over East Granby

EAST GRANBY, Oct. 24 – Five different players scored goals as the Canton High boys soccer team won their fourth straight game with a 7-0 win over East Granby on Tuesday in North Central Connecticut Conference play.

The Warriors (9-5, 9-5 NCCC) have outscored their last four opponents – East Windsor, Hartford Classical, Windsor Locks and East Granby – by a combined score of 20-3 margin.

Leading scorer Jackson Miner has scored six goals in the run with a pair of hat tricks (3 goals) against Classical and Windsor Locks. He is the first Canton player to score three goals in a game since Colin Madigan in 2015.

Against East Granby, Andrew Thibodeau scored his first two goals of the season with a pair of goals in the span of 33 seconds in the second half. Matt Moraski and Michael Cavanaugh each had their first goals of the season for the Warriors.

Ty Aleksa, Brian Connelly and Chris Tenczar also had goals for Canton, which had their largest margin of victory since beating Classical by seven goals in 2015.

After dropping consecutive games to Ellington (5-2) and Suffield (8-2) earlier this month, Canton has ripped off four straight wins with victories over East Windsor (4-1), Classical (5-0), Windsor Locks (4-2) and East Granby.

Under head coach Bill Phelps, now in his 30th season behind the bench for the Warriors, will play in the CIAC Class S tournament for the 12th time in the last 13 years. The tournament begins on Tuesday, November 6.

Canton will close out the regular season with a game at Somers (11-1-1) on Thursday beginning at 4:15 p.m. and a game at Bolton (9-4) on Tuesday, Oct. 30, beginning at 4 p.m.
