Richmond leads Avon girls to sixth place finish at CCC championships

MANCHESTER, Oct. 16 – On a muddy track at Wickham Park in Manchester, Avon High’s Rhiannon Richmond earned a top 25 finish at the Central Connecticut Conference championship meet Tuesday afternoon.

Richmond finished 22nd in the girls varsity race with a time of 21:36. Caroline Luby (36, 21:52), Gabrielle Richmond (40, 22:01) and Sarah Lancaster (50, 22:30) each finished in the top 50 in the field of more than 200 runners.

Avon (9-6, 8-6 CCC West Patriot) finished sixth overall in the race. The Falcons went 4-3 in the dual meet portion of the schedule against CCC West teams (Patriot and Colonial Division) and went 4-3 against the same teams in the league championship meet.

The girls return to action at the Class MM championship on Saturday, October 27 here at Wickham Park at 3:40 p.m. The Falcons are the defending Class MM state champions and have won three of the last four state titles.

Jack Martin led the Avon boys by placing 34th place with a time of 17:29. The Falcons (5-10, 4-10 CCC West) finished 14th overall out of 28 teams.

The boys run in the Class MM championship on October 27 at 3:10 p.m. at Wickham Park.
