Canton grabs control quickly in win over Lyman Memorial

CANTON, February 12 – Jack Rose scored a career-high 22 points, including nine of Canton’s first 25 points, to lead the Canton High boys basketball team to a 74-58 non-league victory over Lyman Memorial on Wednesday night.

After losing to Avon on Saturday, the Warriors (12-7) have now won two straight games. The Warriors have prevailed in three of their last four contests.

From the start, Canton was in control. Rose had nine points in the first quarter while Grant Lange added eight and Chris Tenczar scored six points.

It didn’t stop in the second quarter. Rose scored two baskets on nice inside moves in the lane and Lange drained a pair of three-point shots. He had four in the game. A pair of steals from Tenczar led to another four points as Canton opened up a 45-24 lead at halftime.

Lyman Memorial (12-8) opened up the third quarter with five unanswered points but Canton exploded with a 10-0 run to secure the contest. Dugan Lloyd and Matt Rose had four points each in the run while Jack Rose had two.

Lloyd, who was honored on Senior Night with Grant Lange, scored a career-high 10 points. Lange scored 16 including four 3-point shots. Tenczar finished with nine points.

On Monday night, Canton erased an 11-point halftime deficit to beat Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA) in a thriller, 57-55. Matt Rose scored a career-high 20 points for the Warriors in the victory while Lange added 10 points and Josh Burke scored eight.
