MANCHESTER, April 10 – Pitcher Jack Donofrio gave up just four hits and struck out 13 to lead the Simsbury High baseball to a 1-0 win over Manchester in a Central Connecticut Conference pitching duel on Wednesday.

Donofrio outdueled Manchester pitcher Carson Dowling, who allowed four hits and struck out six. Dowling went the distance and threw 108 pitchers. Donofrio threw 107 and walked just one batter.

Simsbury (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Ryan Laubscher doubled to right field and moved to third in a throw into the infield. He scored on Luke Benneche’s RBI single.

Manchester (1-2) had the leadoff runner on the seventh inning but Donofrio got one batter to ground the ball back to him and then he struck out the final two Manchester batters of the game to secure the win.

In the fifth inning, the Indians had a runner on second base with one out but Donofrio registered back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam.

Simsbury returns to action Friday when they host Suffield in a non-league contest at Memorial Field beginning at 4:30 p.m.
