BOLTON, April 4 – Bolton hurler Julianne Fisher scattered 10 hits and hit a two-out, three-run triple in the third inning to help lift the Bulldogs softball team to a 5-3 win over Canton in North Central Connecticut Conference play on Thursday.
Bolton (1-2, 1-1 NCCC) won their first game of the year taking the lead with a three-run third inning. Rachel Damboise, Brook Damboise and Hannah Woodward loaded the bases with singles before Fisher came up with two outs and ripped a triple to right field on the first pitch she saw to give Bolton a 3-0 lead.
Canton (1-1, 1-1 NCCC) cut the lead to two runs, 3-1, in the fourth inning when Emma Love, Loren Mossey and Anna Mitchell singled to load the bases. Love scored on Morgan Giblin’s single but that is all Canton could get in the inning.
Bolton added another run in the fourth inning on a two-out single from Brook Damboise to again extend the lead to three runs, 4-1.
Canton cut the lead to two runs in the sixth inning, 4-2, when Katelynn Horvath doubled, stole third bases and scored on an infield ground ball out by Mitchell.
Bolton added another run in the sixth before Mitchell hit her second home run of the year in the top of the seventh inning. Both teams left six runners on base.
Mossey (1-1) went the distance on the mound for Canton, allowing eight hits and striking out 10. She walked just four. The Warriors return to action on Monday when they host Rockville beginning at 3:45 p.m.
