Litchfield raps out 14 hits in Tri-State League victory over Canton

Canton’s James Michanczyk was 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI single but the Crushers still lost to Litchfield, 11-4 in Tri-State League baseball action Saturday at Bowdoin Field.

CANTON, June 15 – Steve Harrison was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI while pitcher Justin Kouros went the distance striking out nine to lead the visiting Litchfield Cowboys to an 11-4 win over the Canton Crushers in a Tri-State League baseball game Saturday at Bowdoin Field.

Stanley Riso had three singles as the Cowboys (5-2) rapped out 14 hits against the slumping Crushers, who have lost five straight after an opening day victory over Winsted.

Litchfield pitcher Justin Louros (19) went the distance, pitching nine innings and striking out nine. He walked just three and scattered nine hits.

Catcher Brooks Belter had a RBI triple for Litchfield while Andrew Gauvain had a single and a two-run double in the sixth inning. Edwin Pequignot had two hits and a RBI for the winners, who led 6-0 before the Crushers could get on the board.

Canton (1-5) had nine hits with Andrew Tremblay going 2-for-4 with a RBI in the fifth inning. James Michanczyk had a double and a RBI single in the sixth inning while third baseman Nick Michanczyk drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning.

The Crushers return to action next Saturday when they host Naugatuck at 1 p.m. at Bowdoin Field. They will host the Terryville Black Sox on Sunday, June 23, also at Bowdoin Field at 5 p.m.

Bethlehem 5, Canton 0
Last Sunday, visiting Bethlehem shutout the Crushers, 5-0 as Plowboys pitcher Ty Erikson pitched seven inning, struck out eight and allowed just two hits. Teddy Gravel had two hits and two RBI for the Plowboys while Matt Mancini had a two-run triple.

Bethlehem’s Jon Wilson reached base three times and stole three bases. Ben Sullivan, Spirito, Taylor Riley and James Michanczyk each had singles for Canton.

Northwest 8, Canton 3
On Saturday, June 8, the Northwest Orioles won their first-ever home game with an 8-3 win over the Crushers in Falls Village. Hayden Riva had two hits and scored three runs while Nate LaChaine had a single, double and two RBI. Jessie McKay had a double for Canton while Spirito, Nick Michanczyk and Jeff Mulhall each had singles.

Tribury 5, Canton 2
On Sunday, June 2, Canton’s Chris VandeBogart was 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI in a 5-2 loss to the Tribury Cave at Holy Cross High in Waterbury. Trey VandeBogart was 2-for-4 while Spirito had a RBI single in the sixth inning.

The Cave had a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning before Alex Russo doubled and scored on Tom Rinaldi’s two-run home run for a 5-2 lead. Russo was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles while Rinaldi drove in three runs for Tribury.
