Southington takes care of business with five-inning victory over Avon

The Avon American Legion baseball team dropped a 12-2 decision to Southington on Sunday.

AVON, July 7 – Jacob Romano, Annesh Avancha and Ethan McDonough each had two hits to lead the Southington American Legion baseball team to a 12-2 Zone 1 win over Avon in five innings on Sunday at Buckingham Field.

Post 72, which leads Zone 1 Southern Division by one game over West Hartford, had 12 hits in the game and three extra-base hits. Avancha was 2-for-2 with a single and double while Kyle Leifert was 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and four RBI in the contest.

Southington (11-4) leads West Hartford (11-6) by one game in the Southern Division.

Avon (5-12, 5-9 Zone 1) received two hits each from Max Raha and Emmett Borenstein. Both were 2-for-2 in the five-inning game, cut short by the 10-run mercy rule. Post 201 has lost six of their last seven contests.

Avon returns to action on Monday night with a doubleheader with Southington at Fontana Field in Southington beginning at 5:45 p.m.
