CANTON, October 25 – For the third time in team history, the Canton High girls volleyball has earned an invitation to the CIAC Class S state tournament.
The Warriors secured their first tournament berth since 2016 for fifth-year head coach Eileen Holden with a 25-17, 25-23, 25-15 win over Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA) on Friday night in a North Central Connecticut Conference match.
Not only did Canton (8-10, 4-8 NCCC) secure a tournament bid but they avenged a 3-1 loss to HMTCA in September.
MacKenzie Archangelo led the Warriors with nine kills and had eight digs. Archangelo is the team’s leading hitter with 89 kills on the season. Morgan Giblin had nine digs and two kills along with two aces while serving.
Emma Mates and Archangelo each had three aces while serving. Mates had a team-leading 12 assists in the victory. HMTCA slips to 11-7 on the year and 6-6 in the NCCC.
Canton, which dropped a 3-0 decision to Granby on Monday night, returns to action on Wednesday in their final home match of the year when they host East Windsor (3-10) beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Class S tournament begins on Monday, November 11.
