CANTON, Nov. 15 – Cromwell High’s Anthony Caracoglia is flourishing in the Class S boys soccer tournament. The senior had four goals in a victory over Housatonic in the second round and had another three goals on Friday as the No. 9 Panthers upset top-ranked Canton, 3-0 in the Class S quarterfinals.

That’s seven goals in two games for the Caracoglia. He was helped by goalie James Grodzicki , who had an outstanding game with 10 saves to earn the shutout and eliminate the Warriors.

Cromwell (12-5-3) will face Shoreline Conference foe and defending Class S champion Old Saybrook (15-3-4) in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Canton, which had won eight straight matches, goes home with a 13-3-3 record. Granby was the only other team to shutout the Warriors this year on October 11.

Caracoglia gave Cromwell a 1-0 lead with 16 minutes gone as he converted on a penalty kick. He made it 2-0 nine minutes later and the Panthers led by two at halftime. He scored his third goal nine minutes into the second half.
