AVON, Sept. 23 – For Farmington’s Chris Chisholm, it was just another three mile run. It turns out that he runs three miles much faster than the rest of us. Chisholm easily won the Falcon 5K road race Sunday morning in Avon with a time of 16:53.3 over the 3.1 mile course. The next closest runner was nearly a minute a half behind.
There were 122 finishers in the road race in memory of the late Mellissa Anne Andrew, an Avon High student and runner, who died in an auto accident in August 2010. Proceeds from the race benefit the Avon High Booster Club.
The top woman in the race was Becky Salerni, who was 13th overall with a time of 20:22.3.
Chisholm, 50, knows Avon High runner Rachael Rosow, who asked him to run the race. He agreed if Rosow would help out at next Saturday’s Winding Trails Invitational, a high school invitational in Farmington. An estimated 1,000 runners on 28 boys and girls high school and middle school cross country teams from around New England are expected to attend, including Farmington and Lewis Mills.
Runners currently competing on high school teams were ineligible to participate in the race due to CIAC regulations.
And after the race, Chisholm ran home. After all, he only lives about two miles away from the high school.
