DiGalbo keeps the books for Avon Legion
There isn’t too much debate over the call of a hit or error with the Avon American Legion baseball team. Jim DiGablo, the team’s scorekeeper, has seen a few games in his career. He spent years as the scorekeeper for long-time coach Joe Mancini at Conard High in West Hartford. On Sunday, July 20, DiGablo completed his sixth season as the scorekeeper for Avon at the age of 86.
“I like being with the younger kids,” DiGablo said between innings during the state tournament game against Hartford. “Maybe it makes me feel younger,” he said with a grin. In his younger days, DiGablo played football and baseball at Bulkeley High in Hartford. He played baseball for years in the Greater Hartford Twilight League. Jim and his wife, Lorraine, currently live in Avon.
