VON, Dec. 22 – The Bulkeley High boys basketball team used a strong fourth quarter effort to pull away from Avon and earn a 61-51 Central Connecticut Conference Central Region victory Thursday night. The game was tied at 36-36 after three quarters but the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 CCC Central White) outscored Avon by 10 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.
Chris Ortiz had a game-high 24 points, including three 3-point shots for Bulkeley. Avon was led by Jordan Williams with a team-high 21 points, including a pair of three-point goals. Henry Schrecengost added 10 points for the Falcons.
Avon (1-1, 1-1 CCC Central White) returns to action on Wednesday at the Lewis Mills Holiday Tournament in Burlington. The Falcons will play old NCCC rival Granby on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and face long-time rival Canton on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., in Burlington.
