Bolton wins NCCC girls tennis tourney with Canton, Granby finishing tied for 3rd

MANCHESTER, May 25 – League champion Bolton won three of four singles flights and the top doubles flight to win the 2017 NCCC girls tennis tournament Thursday at Magic Lincer Tennis Club. Erica, Dean, Megan Callahan and Catherine Baum won in singles for the Bulldogs while Christina McDonnell and LeeAnn Snuffer won in doubles.

Bolton, which won the NCCC championship with a 15-1 record this spring, nipped Coventry, 18-16 to win the league tournament.

Canton, which finished tied for second place in the league with an 11-5 record, finished tied for third with Granby in the tournament. Canton’s Kate Hynes finished second at No. 1 singles while the team of Samantha Dionne and Morgan Vacca finished second at No. 2 doubles.

Canton (11-5) opens play in the Class S tournament on Saturday morning when the No. 13 Warriors face No. 20 Cromwell (13-7) at Weston High School. The winner faces No. 4 Weston (16-2) at 4 p.m. in a second round match. The quarterfinals are on Tuesday.

Granby’s Cheryl Latona and Jordan Weber won the third singles title for the Bears while Grace Hoeckele finished second at No. 2 singles. The Bears face No. 18 Coventry in the first round of the Class S tournament on Saturday with the winner moving on to face Bolton in the second round at 4 p.m.
