CANTON, May 8 – Grace Giancola scored six goals and goalie Courtney LeFave made six saves as the defending Class S champion Canton High girls lacrosse team beat Granby, 13-11 on Monday to clinch their second straight North Central Connecticut Conference championship.
The Warriors improve to 10-1 on the season and 7-0 in the league with one NCCC contest remaining against Suffield on May 16. The Bears slip to 7-5 on the year and 4-3 in the league.
It was the fourth straight win for the Warriors after their only defeat thus far this season – a 11-10 double overtime loss to Old Lyme on April 22.
Abby Charron had four goals for Canton while Ashley Potter tied her season-high with three goals. Elise Phillips led the Bears with four goals while her sister Abby added three.
Canton will get tested this week with a pair of games against Class L opposition. Canton travels to West Hartford to face Hall (6-4) on Thursday at 4 p.m. and travels to Fairfield on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest against Fairfield Warde (10-3).
The Warriors also clinched a spot in the final of the NCCC Tournament on Thursday, May 25, at a site to be determined, against the winner of a semifinal between the second place and third place team in the league.
