Former Avon hurler Connor Harris to play at George Washington next spring

AVON – Avon High graduate Connor Harris has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at George Washington University next spring.

Harris is playing baseball this season with Trinity-Pawling, where he set a new school record with 15 strikeouts in seven innings against the Kent School in April.

Since he was playing baseball as a youngster, Harris had dreamed of playing at the Division I level. The Colonials play in the Atlantic 10.

Harris considered James Madison, Penn State, Marist and Baltimore-Maryland County before choosing GW.

Harris has put together a storied athletic career in Avon. He played on the 2018 Avon High boys basketball team that rolled through the Division III state tournament and earned a spot in the finals.

But he excelled on the diamond as a pitcher. As a junior, he was 5-0 with a save for Avon High in 2017.

Harris had an outstanding career with the Avon American Legion baseball team, helping them win the last three Zone 1 championships.

In the past three seasons with Post 201, Harris went 23-1 on the mound. He went 8-1 last summer and was 9-0 in 2017 as he helped Avon drive deep in the American Legion state tournament. Harris had two complete game victories in the 2017 state tournament with 13 strikeouts as he earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.

In 2016, Harris was 6-0 with the Avon Legion.
