MANCHESTER, July 30, 2019 – Avon Old Farms graduate Will Gersky was 3-for-3 with a home run and two doubles as the Manchester Mavericks won their first-ever Connecticut Collegiate Baseball League championship on Tuesday with a 8-3 victory over Glastonbury.
Gersky drove in five runs as Manchester (12-7-1) went undefeated through the double-elimination championship tournament. Gersky, who is from Woodbury and played at Georgetown in the spring, was a four-year starter and helped lead Avon Old Farms to two Founders’ League titles.
Danny Glendon, a Wethersfield native who plays at Sacred Heart, was 1-for-3 for the Mavericks while Jake McDowell picked up the win on the mound.
Aiden Scott had two hits for Glastonbury (11-9-1) while Collin Bakken took the loss on the mound.
It was Manchester’s fourth appearance in the CCBL finals. They were swept in a best-of-three series in 2017 by Glastonbury and in 2016 by Southington. They lost to West Hartford in a best-of-three series in 2013, 2-1.
