Canton, Avon earn big opening day victories on diamond
CANTON, April 3, 2023 – Jackson Senecal was 3-for-3 with two doubles to lead the Canton High baseball team to a 15-0 win over Gilbert School in five innings at Bowdoin Field on opening day of the high school baseball season.
Canton (1-0) had 14 hits in the five-inning contest. Sammy Lincoln was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI for the Warriors while Nate Niscox was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Catcher Noah Asmar was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI.
Four Canton pitchers combined to throw a one-hit shutout. The four pitchers combined to strike out six.
The Warriors hit the road on Tuesday to face Bolton at 3:45 p.m. Canton has three games in four days to open the season. Canton hosts Rockville on Thursday at Bowdoin.

AVON, April 3, 2023 – Pitcher Connor Lavore was 3-for-4 with four RBI and a double to help lift the Avon High baseball team to a season-opening victory over Simsbury, 13-3, at Buckingham Field.
The Falcons had 13 hits and three Avon pitchers scattered seven hits and struck out five Simsbury batters.
David Pengel was 2-for-2 with a triple and one RBI while Chase Beloin was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a home run. Shortstop Luke Coppen was 2-for-5 with three RBI for the Falcons.
Patrick Matyczyk was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI for Simsbury (0-1).
Avon returns to action on Tuesday when they host Middletown at 3:45 p.m.
