Canton outlasts Stafford in match of top two NCCC teams from a year ago

A year ago, the North Central Connecticut Conference championship in wrestling came down to a dual meet in early January that Canton won with a six-point victory over Stafford.

Teams earn one point for each dual meet win in the NCCC and a half point for each team they beat at the league championship meet in February. The Warriors (19-10, 7-0 NCCC) beat Stafford (17-5, 6-1) by a half-point to capture the league championship.

The two best teams in the league a year ago met on opening night Tuesday in Canton with the Warriors prevailing, 42-36 thanks to six pins and two decisions.

Kai Quintana-Wright (132) outlasted Stafford’s Nathan Kodzis, 4-2 while Warrior teammate George Redford (150) beat Kaiden Bobskill, 9-6.
