SIMSBURY, Nov. 4, 2026 – Simsbury High field hockey junior Soren Harris has shown the ability all season to put the ball in the back of the net with 33 goals.
She has also shown the uncanny ability to make plays and set up her teammates, including her best friend Ellie Kim.
Twice, Harris carried the ball 50 yards downfield and made a crossing pass to Kim at the far post that she tapped into the net to lead Simsbury to a 2-1 win over Glastonbury and a Central Connecticut Conference (CCC) championship Wednesday at Holden Field.
The first goal came with a second left in the first half to give the Trojans (18-1) a 1-0 lead at the half. After Glastonbury tied the game with a penalty stroke in the third quarter, Harris again carried the ball downfield in the fourth quarter and Kim tapped in her crossing pass with 8:40 left in the game for the game-winning goal.
Simsbury (18-1, 6-1 CCC North) won their seventh straight game and advances to next week’s CIAC Class M tournament with a first round game against Wethersfield on Tuesday.
“We’re best friends in real life so we have this connection on the field,” Harris said. “We know where the other is. This is our second year playing these positions so we know where we are going and how to get there. I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else.”

Simsbury had plenty of opportunities in the first half with multiple penalty corners. At one point late in the second quarter, they had four consecutive penalty corners before Glastonbury was able to clear it out.
But Simsbury couldn’t get a shot past Guardian goalie Sarah Walker (22 saves).
In the waning seconds of the first half, Harris carried the ball past a variety of Glastonbury defenders and got off a pass across the crease to Kim, who was on the far post.
“They are best friends of the field, truly,” Simsbury coach Taylor Reynolds said. “And it shows on the field. They just know where they’re going to be every time. Ellie always has her stick ready to go on that post, ready for anything. And Soren is just such a gamer, an athletic player that she’s never going to stop and she going to bring it in until something happens.”
Added Kim, “I knew I had to get there (to the far post) as fast I could. It was the perfect setup.”
Glastonbury’s Sam Kohlun scored with 9:29 remaining in the third quarter on a penalty stroke. A stroke was called for after a Guardian shot hit the foot of a Simsbury defender on the goal line.
For Harris and Kim, the game-winning goal was a similar play to the first goal of the game. Harris weaved her way through defenders and fired a crossing pass to Kim, who was in front of the goal and tapped it in. It was Kim’s 20th goal of the season, Reynolds said.
The third-year coach praised the rest of her team as well.
“We have some really strong individual players but it’s the possession (of the ball), it’s the control (of the ball), it’s the passing that everyone brings to set up those guys for success, which we’ve done from day one,” Reynolds said.
Simsbury won the CCC North title with a 6-1 record while Glastonbury (12-4-1) took the CCC South championship with a 6-0 mark.
This was just the second year of the CCC Tournament in field hockey. A year ago, it was a four-team affair with Glastonbury beating Simsbury in the final. This year, it was expanded to eight teams.
