With 14 hits, Canton tops SMSA for first win of the season
HARTFORD, May 9 – The Canton High girls softball team may miss the CIAC tournament for the first time after nine consecutive berths. But they won’t go the entire season without a victory.
The Warriors scored 11 unanswered runs to erase a two-run deficit and beat Sport Medicine Science Academy Monday, 14-6, at Colt Park for their first victory of the season.
Emma Plourd was 4-for-4 with two RBI and a double for Canton (1-12, 1-11 NCCC) while Alexa Szczepanski was 3-for-5 with two RBI and Jaela Davidson was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a double. Canton pounded out 16 hits against the Tigers (3-10, 2-9 NCCC). Canton’s Brooke Dotson was 2-for-5 with two RBI while Sophia Pelehach was 2-for 2 with a pair of singles.
Canton’s Erica Nedderman went the distance on the mound to earn the win. In seven innings, she scattered eight hits, allowed six runs, struck out eight and walked just three.
