Interception return for a TD lifts Granby past Ellington, 14-7

GRANBY, Sept. 29 – Sophomore Sam Attianese intercepted a pass and ran it back 70 yards with 8:22 left in regulation to lift the Granby High football team to a 14-7 Pequot Conference Uncas Division win over Ellington Friday night.

Not only did Attianese’s interception and touchdown give the Bears the win but it was the first interception return for a TD in school history.

Granby (2-2, 2-0 Pequot Uncas) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on an 11-yard touchdown run from Christian Warren with Matt Zyzdorf converting on the extra point. The Purple Knights (0-4, 0-2 Pequot Uncas) tied the game in the third quarter on a three-yard touchdown reception by Dixon.

The Bears ran for 157 yards on the ground, led by Jackson Rome with 108 yards rushing. Ben Kibby had 11-yard sack for Granby in the contest. It was a good bounceback performance after the Bears were blanked 28-0 a week ago by Old Saybrook/Westbrook.

The Bears return to action next Friday when they travel to Stafford to take on the undefeated Stafford/East Windsor/Somers co-op football team (4-0) under the lights.
