Kennedy earns spot in 100 meter finals at U.S. Olympic trials

OMAHA, Neb., June 29 – Avon’s Madison Kennedy swam two strong races Friday at the U.S. Olympic Trials to earn a spot in the 100 meter freestyle finals. Kennedy needs to finish in the top six of Saturday night’s final to earn a berth on the Olympic team. The final will be broadcast between 8 and 9 p.m. on NBC (Ch. 30 in CT).

Kennedy, who is also trying to earn a spot on the team in the 50 freestyle, finished 15th in qualifying of the 100 free with a time of 55.17 seconds to earn a spot with the top 16 swimmers in the semifinals. There, Kennedy finished sixth with a time of personal best 54.45.

Preliminaries in the 50 freestyle will be Sunday with the 50 free final on Monday, July 2, the final day of the trials. At the 2008 Olympic trials, Kennedy was 13th in the 100 free and ninth in the 50 free.
