SIMSBURY, Oct. 1, 2026 – Nasir Gouldbourne ran for a team-high 166 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries as the Simsbury High football team won their third straight game on Thursday night with a 55-20 win over Bloomfield at Holden Field.

It was Simsbury’s first win over Bloomfield (2-2, 1-1 CCC Division III) since 2008 but it was just the second meeting between the two programs since 2008. The two teams last played in 2021.

The 55 points set a new record for Simsbury for points scored against the Warhawks, erasing the previous high of 48 set in 1970.

Simsbury (3-1, 1-1 CCC Division III) controlled the game with six rushing touchdowns, including a 42-yard run by Gouldbourne into the end zone early in the fourth quarter.

The three-game winning streak is the longest since the Trojans won four straight games in the 2019 season when Simsbury last qualified for the CIAC Class L playoffs.

“I’m very, very proud of the kids and really proud of my coaching staff,” Simsbury’s first-year coach Jim Caouette said. “These kids were prepared in every aspect of the game and I like the kind of momentum we have right now.”

A week ago, the Trojans scored 20 points in a win over Avon. This week, they had 55 – the most points in a single game since a 56-7 victory over Enfield in 2019.

“We finished our drives this week and I don’t think we had a single turnover tonight and that’s a big difference,” Caouette said. “Last week, we stalled in the red zone a bit. We were inside the 10 (yard line) three times and came away with no points.”

Gouldbourne and George each ran for two TDs in the first half while Aaron Blecher caught and scored on a 75-yard touchdown pass from Simsbury QB Braeden Siano. Simsbury led 20-6 after one quarter and 33-6 at one point in the second half.

In the third quarter, Cole Roberts scored on a five-yard run to open the second half for Simsbury. On the ensuing kickoff, Simsbury’s Jesse Carst chased down Bloomfield’s Isaac Burgos who lost the ball as he was being tackled.

The ball sailed high into the air and backwards toward the Warhawks goal line. Hunter Woof scooped up the loose ball for a five-yard fumble return and a 48-12 lead with 10:51 left in the third quarter.

“We’ve struggled in the last few years to put three in a row together feels good,“ Caouette said. “The kids feel good and to it against a program like Bloomfield, that’s a good football program.”

Bloomfield has qualified for the Class S tournament in the last seven seasons, played in the championship game six times and won two state titles (2023, 2018).

Bloomfield’s Isaac Burgos intercepted Siano in the end zone on the final play of the first half and returned the ball 100 yards for an apparent touchdown that was nullified by a holding penalty against the Warhawks at the Simsbury 30-yard line. Kameron Wilson scored two touchdowns for Bloomfield

Simsbury will get a good opportunity to measure their progress as a team next week when they travel to Farmington to face the River Hawks for the first time since 2014 in a battle of CCC Division III squads. The series with Farmington is more than 100 years old, dating back to 1923.
