HARTFORD, Oct. 8 – Avon senior Molly Hamel won her fourth dual meet of the fall Wednesday as the Avon High girls cross country team finished the dual meet potion of the NCCC season with a 13-1 record.
Avon beat Granby, 17-46 and Hartford Classical, 15-50 on Wednesday at Elizabeth Park. Avon is currently second in the league behind Suffield (14-0). Teams earn one point for each team they beat during the dual meet portion of the season and one point for each team they beat at the league championship meet.
Avon can earn a share of its fourth league championship if they can beat Suffield at the NCCC championship meet on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Windsor Locks High School.
The Avon High boys cross country team finished the dual meet portion of the NCCC campaign with a 12-2 record after earning a 17-48 win over Granby and a 15-50 decision over Hartford Classical. Avon took four of the top spots in the race, led by Collin Pritchard, who won his second dual meet of the fall.
Pritchard won in 16:07 over the 2.9 mile course. Andrew Suter was second in 16:24, beating teammate Bryant St. Jean by two seconds. Kurt Goldie was fourth in 16:55.
It is Avon’s best dual meet record in the NCCC since going 10-1 in 2007. The boys will also compete at the NCCC championship meet on Oct. 18.
NOTES: Both Avon teams will be competing at the Windham Invitational Saturday in Manchester. The Avon girls are ranked 12th in the latest state coaches poll.
