UConn wins third straight with hard-fought win over Bearcats

HARTFORD, Jan. 10 – The NCAA tournament hopes for the defending national champion Huskies look a little brighter after Saturday’s hard-fought 62-56 win over Cincinnati by UConn at the XL Center. The Huskies improved to 9-5 with their second big win of the week.

The game was much as you’d expect of a UConn-Cincinnati matchup. Both teams played physical, pressure defense. UConn held the Bearcats to 30.8 percent shooting in the second half, cementing the victory.

Ryan Boatright — who said he’s feeling about 85 percent healthy — led UConn with 18 points and eight assists. Omar Calhoun continued his recent hot streak with 12 points in 19 minutes and Rodney Purvis ignited UConn’s offense in the second half after a slow start, ending with 11 points including a big three-pointer.
