
Avon’s Sean Del Gallo was 3-for-4 with two RBI and pitched three scoreless innings of relief in Avon’s 11-4 win over SMSA Thursday.
HARTFORD, April 30 – -Bryant St. Jean and Sean Del Gallo each had three hits and Del Gallo pitched three innings of shutout baseball to lead Avon to an 11-4 decision over Sport Medicine Science Academy (SMSA) on Thursday at Colt Park.
The Falcons erased a three-run deficit with four runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. Sacrifice flies from Justin Olson and Steve Carrier drove in two runs and another two runs came in on a RBI double to centerfield by Jeremy Zarwanski and a RBI single to center by Matt Boone for a 5-4 lead.
Avon (6-3, 5-2 NCCC) extended its lead two runs in the fifth inning, 6-4 on Boone’s RBI single to centerfield that scored Carrier from second base.
The Falcons iced the game with five runs in the top of the seventh inning with five consecutive hits. With one out, Alex Zacchio had a RBI single to centerfield, Andrew Leduc had a two-RBI single to center, Kyle Emery singled to left field, Olson had a two-RBI single to right field and Del Gallo hit a RBI single to left field to swell Avon’s lead to 11-4.
Del Gallo was 3-for-4 with two RBI while St. Jean was 3-for-4. Boone had two singles and two RBI while Zarwasnki had a single, double and one RBI.
On the mound, McDonald allowed four unearned runs on five hits in two innings work. He fanned one. Del Gallo pitched three innings of scoreless relief, scattering four hits and striking out two. Kyle Emery worked two innings, struck out four and gave up just one. Over the final five innings, the Avon bullpen didn’t allow a run and fanned six.
For SMSA (5-5, 5-5 NCCC), DH Jonathan Gegetskas was for 2-for-4 with a single, double and two RBI. Catcher Theodore Elsyer was also 2-for-4 with a single and double.

Canton 5, Ellington 3
ELLINGTON, April 30 – Kevin Gurry went the distance on the mound, scattering six hits and striking out 10 to lead Canton a 5-3 win over Ellington in NCCC action Thursday. Gurry also had two hits at the plate in the victory. The Warriors (5-5, 4-4 NCCC) erased a one-run deficit with a three-run seventh inning to take the lead.
It was Gurry’s second game with 10 or more strikeouts in a week. He fanned 10 against East Windsor in his last start a week ago.
