AVON, Sept. 22 – Avon sophomore Jack Stokesbury won his first varsity dual meet race Tuesday as the Avon High boys cross country team rolled to a 17-45 win over Bulkeley-Hartford at Fisher Meadows.
Stokesbury won the 3.1 mile race in 17:26 with Jon Hernandez taking second in 17:32. Zach Bortoff was third in 18:04 while Andrew Mascoli was fifth in 18:33. Mike Thramann was sixth in 18:35 for the Falcons, who are now 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in their division (CCC Central White).
In the girls race, Avon (2-0, 2-0 CCC Central White) swept the top five spots in a 15-50 win over Bulkeley with Rachel Martin winning the 3.1-mile race in 19:30. Christina Martin was second in 20:05, followed by Ryley Higgins (20:06), Sara Leavens (20:18) and Ashley Martin (20:21). The Avon girls have won 11 consecutive dual meets dating back to last September.
The Falcons will race next on Saturday at the Winding Trails Invitational in Farmington beginning at 9 a.m.
