WINDSOR LOCKS, Oct. 27 – As the regular season comes to a close, the Canton High boys soccer team is building up momentum. The Warriors have five straight games and six of the last seven including a 2-1 win over Windsor Locks on Tuesday.

Rieley Hoffman and John Graziano each had goals as the Warriors outlasted the Raiders, improving to 10-3-1 on the season and 9-1-1 in the NCCC.

It was the seventh goal of the season for Hoffman and Graziano. Colin Madigan had assists on both goals.

Canton goalie Joshua Frigo made 12 saves to secure the win. Raider goalie Ryan Rich stopped four shots. Mark Labbe scored for the Raiders (6-6-2, 4-5-2 NCCC) off an assist from Glenn Smith.

Canton has two games remaining. The Warriors travel to Hartford to face Sport Medicine Science Academy on Friday at 4 p.m. at Hyland Park. Canton closes out the regular season at Coventry on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.

It will be the second meeting of the year for Canton against the Patriots (12-2, 9-2 NCCC), who blanked the Warriors, 4-0 earlier this month. Canton could also meet Coventry again in the CIAC Class S tournament. The Patriots are currently the No. 2 ranked team in Class S.

Canton will be looking for its first 11-win campaign since 2003 when the Warriors were 11-1-4 and won the Class S championship. The Warriors have won 12 regular season matches three times – the latest coming in 1983 when they won a state championship.

Title match Thursday night
FARMINGTON — It’s been more than 30 years since the Avon and Farmington boys soccer teams met with a regular season championship on the line. The two teams square off Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Tunxis Meade Park in Farmington with the CCC Central White division title on the line.

Avon (11-4, 9-0 CCC Central White) can secure the pennant with a win over Farmington. The host Indians (11-2-2, 8-1 CCC Central White) can grab a piece of the title by winning the game. The Falcons beat Farmington earlier this month, 2-0, handing Farmington its first loss of the season.

The Falcons have won seven of their last eight matches. Leading scorer Jack Keenan (14 goals) has scored 10 goals in the last eight matches. Six of the last seven wins by been by shutout.

The two teams last played in the same conference in 1984 in the Northwest Conference. Avon won the NWC title that season and the only blemish on their schedule that season was a scoreless tie with Farmington.

The two teams did recently meet in a state championship game with Farmington dominating in a 5-0 decision in the 2012 Class L title game.
