ELLINGTON, Dec. 22 –Emily Briggs scored a game-high 26 points including 10 points in the third quarter as the Canton High girls basketball team beat Ellington, 49-38 on Thursday night in NCCC action.
The Warriors (2-1, 2-1 NCCC) got off to a strong start opening the game with a 20-6 surge. Sarah Bowman scored nine points for Canton while Abbe Skinner and Belle Magna had six points each.
Canton returns to action on Tuesday when they host the second annual Canton Holiday Classic. Hall and Tolland face off in the first semifinal game at 5 p.m. with Canton and Suffield in the second game beginning at 7 p.m. The tournament concludes on Thursday, Dec. 29.

HARTFORD, Dec. 23 – Isabel Aguilar had a game-high 10 points and teammate Taylor Aiello added nine points as the Avon High girls basketball team grabbed their first victory of the season with a 36-12 win over Bulkeley in Central Connecticut Conference play Thursday night. The Falcons (1-3) return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 27 by traveling to Berlin for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
