SUFFIELD, Dec. 20 – McKenzie Rusczyk had four points in a ten-point, third quarter surge that helped undefeated Suffield beat the Canton High girls basketball team, 54-46 in a NCCC contest on Tuesday night.
The Wildcats had a four point lead, 31-27, before a 10-0 run in a span of 2:20 helped Suffield take control of the contest. Erin Carucci began the run with a three-point shot followed by a basket from Rusczyk to push the lead to nine points.
Rusczyk had a game-high 22 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and sank four three-point shots for the Wildcats, now 4-0 on the year. Kelly Carucci scored 12 points while her sister, Erin chipped in with 11. Suffield led for most of the game but it was a close contest in the first half.
Tied at 19-19, Suffield outscored Canton, 8-2 in the final 2:30 of the second quarter with five points from Bella Plano, including a three-point shot. The Wildcats had seven three-point shots in the contest. It was Suffield’s first win over Canton since 2013.

Canton (1-1, 1-1 NCCC) was led by Emily Briggs with 19 points. Abby Charron scored seven while Belle Magna and Sarah Bowman added six points each.
The Warriors face Ellington Friday night on the road before coming home on Tuesday, Dec. 27, to face Suffield in the first round of the Canton Holiday Classic. Hall and Tolland will square off in the second Holiday Classic contest.
