AVON – The 24th annual Richard Migli benefit golf tournament at the Golf Club of Avon was a tremendous success. Sponsored by the Avon High Booster Club and the family of the late Richard Migli, the tournament raised $20,000.
The funds will be put to good use funding resources and programs for Avon High athletes and two annual scholarships in Dick’s name.
The two winners of the Migli scholarships were announced at the tournament dinner. Lauren Jeandell, captain of the field hockey and girls basketball teams, and Jack Jones, captain of the football and boys lacrosse teams, were selected to receive the scholarships. They were honored for their exceptional performances on and off the field.
Jeandell and Jones were introduced at the tournament dinner and were able to meet Amy Migli Matsikas, sister of Dick, and some of Migli’s AHS baseball teammates who attend the event every year.
Migli, a talented Avon High athlete, died in 1993 after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). A member of the class of 1970, Migli excelled in football, basketball and baseball, earning 12 varsity letters. He had a passion for athletics and good sportsmanship.
The event was chaired by Steve Hahn and made possible by longtime title sponsor Northwest Community Bank along with many generous business and community donors. The team of Todd Donovan, Mark Olson, Rob St. Jean and Don Annicelle won the tournament.
The tournament committee is already looking forward to the 25th year of the tournament next May.
