Jimmy Obertop cracked a go-ahead two-run single in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and help the Yard Goats beat the Somerset Patriots 5-3 in the final game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Sam Weatherly, Cade Denton, and Davis Palermo held Somerset to just three runs in their season finale. Denton worked 4.1 innings and had five strikeouts to earn the win. Jared Thomas had three hits, including a single, double, and home run. The Yard Goats start the Eastern League Northeast Division Championship (best-of-three) against the Reading Fightin Phils in Pennsylvania on Tuesday night at 6:45 PM. The Yard Goats will host Game Two of the ELDS next Thursday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Dunkin’ Park.

The Somerset Patriots used a four-run sixth inning and a six-run eighth inning to beat the Yard Goats 11-6 on Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Hartford had a 5-1 lead in the sixth inning, and a 6-5 lead in the eighth and suffered its third straight loss. Core Jackson hit a grand slam home run for Somerset, which missed the playoffs for only the second time since 2001. Zach Kokoska had a two-run double and Jack O’Dowd had a pair of hits for the Yard Goats who will play the final game of the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 1:05. The Yard Goats start the best-of-three Eastern League Northeast Divisional Series on Tuesday in Reading, PA and will host Game Two on Thursday at Dunkin’ Park (6:30 PM).

Hartford Athletic improved to 6-0-2 in their last eight games with a 3-1 win over Eastern Conference leader Tampa Bay in USL Championship play at Trinity Health Stadium. Michael Adedekun’s goal off an assist from Sadat Anaku in the 26^th minute gave Hartford the early lead. Anaku’s goal just before halftime extended Hartford’s lead to 2-0. Tampa Bay (14-4-6) cut the lead in half in the 79^th minute on a hard shot from Laurence Wyke but Hartford (8-5-10) iced the game on Ngalina hitting a penalty kick with two minutes left in regulation. Hartford hosts Sporting JAX on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. at Trinity Health Stadium.

Trailing 4-0 in the eighth inning, the Yard Goats got a two-run home run from Jimmy Obertop and then added a run in the ninth but fell short in a 4-3 loss to the Somerset Patriots on Friday evening at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Somerset starting pitcher Bryce Cunningham worked seven scoreless innings before Hartford put three runs up on the bullpen. Jack O’Dowd had two hits, scored a run and had an RBI and Dyan Jorge stole his team-record 55th base. The Yard Goats play two more games in New Jersey before starting the Eastern League playoffs next Tuesday in Reading, PA.

Outfielder Mike Antico recorded his 200th career stolen base but Somerset starter Rory Fox was tough on the Yard Goats and fired 7.2 scoreless innings as Somerset defeated Hartford 3-0 on Thursday night at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey. After winning 4-0 on Wednesday, the Yard Goats managed only one hit against Fox and two relievers. Braylen Wimmer had Hartford’s only hit. The Yard Goats did bat the potential tying run in the eighth inning but Tony Rossi retired Hartford’s home run leader GJ Hill to end the threat.

The Colorado Rockies sent two Major League veteran pitchers to join the Yard Goats as Jose Quintana and Kyle Freeland combined for five scoreless innings, and Connor Staine worked the final four, leading the Yard Goats to a 4-0 shutout over the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday night at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The Yard Goats scored a run in the first inning, and it was a 1-0 game going to the eighth. Hartford’s win combined with Reading’s win reduced its magic number to one to clinch the second half. The Yard Goats will play a best-of-three playoff series against the winner of the second half. Quintana started and pitched the first two innings before handing things over to Rockies teammate Freeland who struck out five straight and earned the win. New Jersey native Connor Staine took over in the sixth inning and retired 12 of 16 batters faced in four scoreless frames. Roynier Hernandez had three hits and drove in two runs and Jared Thomas had a hit, RBI and scored helping Hartford to its seventh win in 11 games

Somerset scored five runs in the first inning and defeated the Yard Goats 7-2 on Tuesday night at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Josh Moylan drove in four runs on two hits, including a three-run double and a solo home run as the Yankees affiliate moved to within 2.5 games of first-place Reading with five games remaining in the regular season. The Yard Goats play the winner of the division in a best of three series starting next Tuesday. Andy Perez had an RBI double for the Yard Goats and the bullpen of Davis Palermo and Austin Smith allowed just one run in 4.1 innings.
