SIMSBURY, July 5 – After committing 11 errors in their last four games, the Simsbury American Legion baseball team played better defense Thursday night and snapped a three-game Zone 1 losing streak with a 6-0 victory over Winsted at Memorial Field.
Post 84 committed just one error but it didn’t cost them in a victory over Winsted. Simsbury pitcher Jake Nichols went the distance, allowing just four hits and striking out seven. Nichols, who walked just three, improves to 4-0 on the season.
Sam Attianese was 2-for-3 with a double for Simsbury (10-3, 6-3 Zone 1) while Tate Valerio was 1-for-3 with a triple and one RBI. Jonathan Wilson had a double for Simsbury while Joe Patrina had a single and two RBI. Nate Orluk had a single and one RBI.
Simsbury had four errors in a 4-0 loss against Avon last week, committed six errors in a 9-9 non-zone tie with Tri-County on Saturday and had another error in a one-run loss to Wolcott earlier this week.
Winsted (8-6, 8-5 Zone 1) was led by Cameron Wilheim with a double.
Simsbury returns to action on Friday night when they travel to Torrington to face the P38s at historic Fuessenich Park beginning at 5 p.m.
