
Granby/Canton’s Sam Attianese (24) scored two touchdowns and recovered two fumbles at the Bears beat Haddam-Killingworth on Friday afternoon, 27-7
Sam Attianese ran for 123 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries to help lead the Granby/Canton football team to a 27-7 Pequot Conference victory over winless Haddam-Killingworth on Friday afternoon in Haddam.
Attianese scored on 49-yard run in the fourth quarter and also scored on a 14-yard reception from quarterback Jackson Rome in the third quarter. Attianese caught four passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, he made 12 tackles, had two tackles for a loss and recovered two fumbles.
The Bears (4-1) forced four turnovers, recovering three fumbles and intercepting a pass. The host Cougars fell to 0-4.
Sam Schock had an interception, one fumble recovery and five tackles while Simon Matthews had 11 tackles and two tackles for a loss. Dylan Disabella and Dontel Williams each had 10 tackles.
Granby/Canton took a 7-0 lead on their first drive when Simon Matthews pulled in a 69-yard touchdown reception from Rome. The Bears extended the lead to 14-0 on Rome’s 14-yard TD pass to Attianese with 8:25 left in the third quarter.
Granby/Canton added two touchdowns in the final 5:23 of the game to pull away and secure the win.
Rome completed 8-of-12 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted twice.
The Bears have a bye next week and return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 when Granby/Canton hosts Windsor Locks/Suffield/East Granby at 6:30 p.m. in Granby.
