AVON, November 14 – Senior Emily Dempsey had a match-high 17 kills and 13 digs to help the No. 2 Avon girls volleyball team advance to the Class L quarterfinals with a 3-0 sweep of No. 15 East Lyme on Thursday night. The Falcons prevailed 25-14, 25-16 and 25-17.
Baylee Braun had 11 kills for Avon (20-2) while Eliza Jones had two kills and four blocks. Noelle Powers had 19 digs on defense while setter Abby St. Onge had 26 assists and four kills for the Falcons.
Avon advances to Saturday night’s quarterfinals when they host No. 10 Bristol Central (17-5) at 1 p.m. Avon has not faced the Rams this year.
The Falcons will be looking for their first-ever Class L semifinal berth. The last time that Avon played in the semifinals was 14 years ago in 2005 when they lost to Seymour in the Class M tournament.
